The Founders of Hamlet for the Homeless

Our roots and drive to make a difference

Alex Wexler and Gregg Milano were a power house in their shared philanthropic work and dedication in helping, supporting and fostering at-risk youth. The foundational idea for our organization was conceived of in a compromise between Alex and Gregg; Gregg wanted to adopt a dozen or more children and Alex agreed to start by adopting one child, but finding a way to help as many children as they could. So, they began to brainstorm a way to help at risk youth which wouldn’t be limited by the constrictions of space in their own home.

At the very young age of 7, Gregg experienced his own torturous time as a homeless youth on the streets, alone and scared. With ties to Theatre throughout his lifetime and witnessing time and again the positive effect Theatre provides, Alex felt applying this field would provide a multitude of benefits such as therapeutic tools and instruction for possible future vocational use. Thus, Hamlet for the homeless was born. Devastatingly, Alex lost his battle to cancer before seeing his dreams become a reality. We strive to honor his memory and attempt to delve into his abundant passion in ensuring this organization serves the purposes of those shared dreams between him and Gregg.
