Drama Therapy

Drama therapy (the use of the dramatic process and theatre as a therapeutic intervention) originated from Dr. Jacob Moreno’s development of Psychodrama (a method using spontaneous dramatization, role playing and dramatic self-presentation to gain insight into the lives of clients) in the 1960’s. The Drama Therapy technique assists in personal growth and promotes mental health. It has continued to gain and grow in acceptance and application since the 1960’s, being practiced worldwide. Currently academic training programs in Drama Therapy are being offered in Germany, Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, Israel and the United States.

Utilizing the core processes of Drama Therapy, Hamlet for the Homeless provides a therapeutic tool allowing the at-risk youth we serve to better cope with the rigors of everyday life by providing different avenues to express themselves.
